The Helman peace marchers arrived in Kabul last week after walking for 700 kilometres from Lashkargah, Helmand's capital.

They conducted a four-day sit-in in front of the UNAMA office in Kabul, askinh the world's body to play sincere role in the Afghan peace process.

Pacha Khan, a member of the peace marchers, told Pajhwok Afghan News they ended their sit-in in front of UNAMA office today and handed over a letter for the UN secretary general to the UNAMA office.

In the letter, the UN chief has been asked to play a decisive role in establishment of durable peace in Afghanistan.

The letter says: 'Our nation and people demand the United Nations know and realize (its) priorities, we need peace, stability and reconciliation more than pens, notebooks, and tents.'

The letter said the Afghan nation was dissatisfied with the UN and because the world's body had failed to take practical steps for security and peace during the past 17 years.

'Despite suffering long from all these problems, we still believe that you (UN) will take action to bring peace. If the Afghans see no evident actions from your side for peace in Afghanistan, then we will be compelled to close your gates for all activities. Please do not dishearten and disappoint us and please do not leave us in the misery,' the letter maintains.

The peace marchers also lashed out at the UN for not stopping neighbouring countries from their intervention in Afghanistan and reminded the only option with them was to protest and close UNAMA gates to convoy their message to the world.

The activists said their aim was put pressure on the US government to end the fighting in Afghanistan and work for establishment of peace and stability in the war-torn country.
