(MENAFN) Turkey's first domestically-produced automobile is expected to contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with USD58.7 billion.

The statement has been made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a tweet posted on Tuesday.

The Turkish president noted that the indigenous electric vehicle is also set to lessen from his country's reliance on petroleum.

President Erdogan added "our electric automobile that will hit the roads in 2021 will contribute 50 billion euros to GDP, reducing oil dependency. It's time for a local car. It's time for Turkey."
