Jordanian economy to get USD2.5bn support from Gulf states

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya chanel reported Jordan's economy to be receiving USD2.5 billion of financial aid from Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait.

It comes as a summit was organized to tackle ways to handle protests which erupted because of a controversial tax law, leading to the resignation of Jordanian prime minister and his cabinet.

The summit has been held in Mecca and attended by Jordanian King Abdullah II, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, UAE's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Jordan is experiencing a challenge to curb its debt after securing USD723 million loan from the International Monetary Fund in 2016.
