(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, June 5: The Cabinet, during its weekly meeting at Al-Seif Palace Monday, approved the decree on ending the current legislative term upon conclusion of the special session slated for June 28.
The decree has been forwarded to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for final approval.
Deputy Prime Minister and acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid stated after the meeting that Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh briefed the Cabinet on the contents of the annual development plan follow-up report for the year 2017/2018, highlighting what has been achieved alongside important notes from monitoring the implementation of projects included in the plan.
After being instructed to submit the final report to the National Assembly, Al-Sabeeh pointed out that the cost and rate of progress are higher than the last two terms She said the report includes the obstacles faced and proposed solutions to achieve the desired outcome.
Furthermore, due to the conclusion of the government meeting with the joint parliamentary committee on the financial status of the country, MPs have started to look into the smallest detail that might help in addressing the financial issue.
Chairman of the Budgets and Final Accounts Committee MP Adnan Abdul Samad said the government unveiled the dangers which the General Reserves Fund (GRF) is facing and the extent of its liquidity. He added the government pointed out the risk of exhausting the fund if withdrawal pushes through as a result of the continuation of the budget deficit. He revealed all those who attended the meeting agreed on the necessity to hold further meetings and deliberations on the issue.
On the other hand, MP Khaleel Al- Saleh submitted a letter to the Assembly, requesting the Financial Affairs Committee to study and disclose the fundamentals upon which the Sustainability Program has been built and the reason behind the exclusion of the Companies and Practices Tax from the program although it was included in the original economic reform document. Besides providing details deemed necessary, the committee should submit a report to the Assembly at the beginning of the next legislative term, he added.
The MP asserted that despite the dire need to correct the financial state of the country and work towards solid reforms, the government's projects and plans are riddled with ambiguity; thereby, leaving the public nervous as to how these alleged reforms will affect them.
Moreover, MP Mohammed Al- Huwaila submitted a query to Minister of Housing Affairs and Minister of State Services Dr Jenan Bushehri on the reasons behind the delayed completion of the industrial zone in Sabah Al-Ahmad, considering the planned industrial zone is part of the development strategy to support the long-term growth of the southern part of the country which will support the sustainability program as well.
In another development, the parliamentary Committee for Improvement of Work Standards approved the proposal of a number of MPs to allow the owners of small enterprises to establish permanent outlets, allocate spaces for small restaurants and fields for various sports.
