Lebanese official: US sanctions on Hezbollah to "hamper" gov't formation

(MENAFN On Sunday, Minister of Education and Higher Learning, Marwan Hamadeh, condemned that "the new U.S. sanctions on Hezbollah will hamper the government formation," NNA reported.

Hamadeh, remarks came during an interview to "Voice of Lebanon" Radio Station this morning, called for the Lebanese counterparts to exert effort to "keep Lebanon away from political disputes in order to preserve its security and stability."

On Wednesday, the US, alongside Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have imposed new sanctions on Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and his deputy, Sheikh Naim Qassem, as well as three other officials with the movement.

The bans were mainly targeted at Shura Council, the primary decision-making body of the resistance movement. It is comprised of 12 members who are tasked with making the group"s tactical decisions and oversee its activities countrywide.
