Bahrain acquires approval of USD911m weapons purchase deal with US

(MENAFN) Bahrain was confirmed to have been granted an approval from the US State Department for a possible acquisition of USD911.4 million helicopter and weapons.

The Gulf state is set to purchase 26 engines, 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters, missiles and rockets, missile planning, communications and electronic warfare systems, as revealed the DSCA of the Department of Defense.

The acquisition agreement was also explained to be including personnel training, training equipment, US government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services.

In its statement, the DSCA noted "this proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a major non-NATO ally which is an important security partner in the region."

It added "our mutual defense interests anchor our relationship and the Royal Bahraini Air Force plays a significant role in Bahrain's defence."
