JEDDAH, April 28 (KUNA) -- Defense units of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen on Saturday intercepted and downed four ballistic missiles fired by Yemeni Houthi militias in direction of southern Saudi city Jazan.
Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the coalition spokesman, Col. Turki Al-Malki, as saying the coalition's air defense forces monitored at 10:40 a.m. (07:40 GMT), launch of four ballistic missiles by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias from Saada, targeting the Kingdom territories.
The rockets targeted Jazan but the air defense forces intercepted them, however their fragments were scattered over residential districts, he said, noting the debris caused no human losses or damage.
This hostile act by the Houthi militias proves again involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting them with advanced capacities, in explicit breach of the UN resolutions 2216 and 2231.
Moreover, firing ballistic missiles in the direction of populated towns and cities is a violation of international laws.
The Saudi-led coalition was formed in 2015 to face the Houthi rebels that seized Sanaa and sought to impose their influence on all Yemen.
The coalition has imposed a blockade on the Houthi controlled regions and backed loyalists in ground fighting against the insurgents. (end) nsa.rk
