Lebanon opens SmartEx exhibition in tech sector development
(MENAFN) Lebanon has launched its SmartEx exhibition this week, attracting a number of companies that displayed their initiatives while experts begun talks on the Lebanese technology sector and its opportunities as well as obstacles.
The four-day show has presented a number of sides signifying the tech sector in Lebanon, including information, telecommunication, security, automation and retail.
"Our youths have shown distinction on the global stage," commented Lebanese Telecommunications Minister Jamal Jarrah at the opening of the exhibition.
The minister also pointed out to what Lebanese entrepreneurs have achieved in the sector in their ability to launched their global startup competitions.
Speaking to The Daily Star, managing director of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) Lebanon Jason Rizk urged "we want to reposition Lebanon as a tech and business tourism hub, and as a tech platform in the Middle East."
The managing director added "we have a very talented workforce. A lot of guys are going abroad. When they go abroad they shine - whether it's in startup competitions or in businesses. I don't want them to go abroad anymore. Lebanon is the right place for them."
