Jordan- FM stresses need for collective work to end occupation, civil wars


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Riyadh, April 12 (Petra)-- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said that the Arab League is the only framework of our collective action.

In remarks at the opening of the Arab League Council's Arab foreign ministers preparatory meeting in Riyadh ahead of the 29th Arab Summit, Safadi said that the "Arab League is strong and capable of giving if we want, and it will remain weak if we do not adopt common thinking, joint planning and joint action to stop sliding into crises, conflicts and divisions." The minister highlighted the need for joint work to end occupation, civil wars and their devastating repercussions.

"Peace is our strategic Arab choice and we will do our part to achieve it," he said.

The minister stressed the importance the Arab Peace Initiative as the only means to establish peace in the region that leads to an end to the Israeli occupation and establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the lines of June 4, 1967.

Safadi also affirmed the need to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis that puts and end to the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing the importance of working together to end the fighting in Syria and supporting the Geneva track to reach a political solution based on resolution 2245 that preserves Syria's unity and independence.

On terrorism, the minister emphasized the importance of countering terrorism, adding that Jordan is committed to continuing the war on terrorism in full partnership with all Arab countries as well as the international community.

"During its presidency of the Arab Summit, Jordan continued its efforts to activate joint Arab action and overcome challenges and crises,", the minister said, noting that His Majesty King Abdullah is exerting efforts in coordination with the Palestinian leadership and Arab brethren as well as the international community to enable the Palestinians to regain their legitimate rights and establish their independent state. Safadi also pointed to efforts solve the crisis in Yemen based on resolution 2216 and in line with the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative and the National dialogue Conference.
