Palestinian shot in West Bank: police

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A Palestinian tried to stab an Israeli with a screwdriver near a petrol station in the occupied West Bank yesterday but was shot by a passer-by before he could attack, police said.
The incident took place at the Mishor Adumim industrial zone, which is connected to a nearby Jewish settlement east of Jerusalem, a police statement said.
'A passer-by in his car noticed and shot at him, police said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital in Jerusalem in serious condition, medics said. Tensions have risen along the Israel-Gaza border since the start of protests there on March 30 that have led to clashes in which Israeli forces have killed 30 Palestinians.
There have been no Israeli casualties.
Low-level protests and clashes have also occurred in the West Bank. Palestinians seen by Israeli forces as lone-wolf attackers have regularly carried out stabbings against Israelis in recent years.
CALL TO END VIOLENCE
Meanwhile, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court yesterday called for an end to violence in the Gaza Strip, adding the Palestinian territories were subject to a preliminary examination by her office and she was monitoring events there closely.
Following the deaths of 29 Palestinians in protest clashes with Israeli forces in the past two weeks, Fatou Bensouda said in a statement 'any new alleged crime committed in the context of the situation in Palestine may be subjected to my Office's scrutiny.
The ICC prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation into alleged crimes committed in occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, in January 2015, after Palestine was officially admitted as a member of the court.
