Arab League debates Israeli violations against Palestinians

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Cairo, Apr 2 (Petra) –– Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit discussed on Monday with Hamas politbureau chief Ismail Haniyeh the latest Israeli attacks on Palestinians marking the Land Day anniversary, which left many Palestinians dead or wounded.

The head of the pan-Arab organisation voiced his solidarity with the Palestinians and extended his condolences to the families of the martyrs and his wishes to the wounded for speedy recovery.

He reiterated the league's rejection of the "Israeli crime" against the participants in the Land Day march on the Gaza border, noting that the organisation will take the "necessary decisions" at an emergency meeting at the level of permanent representatives on Tuesday.

Haniyeh stressed the need to go to the United Nations General Assembly to tackle the Israeli crime, and form an international investigation committee as the United States would veto any fair resolution to the Palestinians at the Security Council.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian injured in Friday's shooting on the Gaza border has died of his wounds, bringing to 18 the number of those shot and killed by the Israelis. About 1,400 were also injured by Israeli fire. SS
