(MENAFN- The Peninsula) GENEVA:Turkish Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman on Saturday said the Operation Olive Branch in Syria northwestern region of Afrin is in line with the international law.
He was speaking during the 138th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union at the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Geneva.
"Operation Olive Branch will continue until all terrorists are cleared from the region," Kahraman said.
Turkey describes Operation Olive Branch in Syria & #39;s northwestern region of Afrin as a legitimate use of the right to self-defense, which is enshrined in the UN charter.
"Our aim is absolutely not to obtain any land. Our goal is to create conditions for Syrian and Turkish people to live in peace and prevent terrorist attacks against Turkey and Syria," Kahraman said.
Speaking about the smear campaign against the operation, he said: "Unfortunately, there are fake news in the international media about the operation. The operation is in line with the international law.
