Jordan- UN Chief urges council to respond to chemical weapon issue in Syria


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) New York, March 22 (Petra)-- The United Nations(UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres late Wednesday called on the Security Council (SC) to investigating allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

A statement issued by the UN, said that Guterres, who met on 20 March with the Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), is alarmed at the persistent allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Syrian.

"The use of chemical weapons, under any circumstances, is unjustifiable and abhorrent," the statement added.

"Impunity cannot prevail with respect to such serious crimes, it also stressed." The secretary general reiterated his call for the Security Council to demonstrate unity and resolve on the issue.
