ABU DHABI, 20th March, 2018 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, ADJD, and the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, have launched a system linking the public prosecution and criminal courts to penal and correctional facilities, as well as police stations via closed-circuit television, CCTV.

The system will allow the courts and public prosecution to communicate with inmates and review interim requests via video conferencing technologies. This latest launch is the first step in an integrated project that will allow for coordination and cooperation between ADJD and Abu Dhabi Police.

The system launch was attended by Yousef Saeed Al Abri, ADJA Under-Secretary, Ali Mohammed Al Balushi, Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi, along with senior officials and representatives from both sides.

A direct session via CCTV technology saw requests being reviewed for inmates at Al Wathba Abu Dhabi Central Prison.

Al Abri said that the launch of this project is in line with the directives set by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to improve judicial working systems, while ensuring the optimal use of modern technologies to provide judicial and security services in line with best international practices.

Al Balushi said that the Public Prosecution, as a representative of society concerned with the Rule of Law, was keen on partaking in this project that ensures the application of human rights principles and maintains the Criminal Procedure Code, guaranteeing defendants access to a fair trial.
