Jordan- FM receives Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, March 12 (Petra)-Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, Monday received Spain's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ildefonso Castro Lopez, who handed him an invitation from his counterpart Alfonso Dastis to visit Spain.

During the meeting, both sides underscored the "long-standing and deep ties" between the two friendly countries. Safadi commended Spain's support to Jordan in the various domains, whereas Lopez expressed his country's commitment to assist Jordan both at the bilateral or the EU levels.

The two sides also agreed to step up mutual economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of trade, tourism, investment and to create the appropriate ambience, in a bid to launch fresh prospects of cooperation between the two countries' private sectors.

Moreover, discussions tackled the latest developments in the Middle East region, on top of which is the Palestinian issue and challenges facing the peace process, in light of the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In this context, Safadi lauded Madrid's supportive stance to the Palestinian cause aimed at finding a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, based on the two-state solution as the sole means to realize lasting and comprehensive peace.

Ensuing extensive consultations were held headed by Foreign Ministry Secretary General, Zeid Lawzi, and the Spanish official on ways to foster bilateral ties as well as developments in the Middle East.
