(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas praised the support of the Arab countries, and their rejection of US President Donald Trump's declaration that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to the occupied Jerusalem, as well as the adoption by the Arab countries to the Palestinian President proposal for the UN Security Council on February 20, as a fixed position of the Arab states.
In a statement to Palestinian news agency, Abbas reiterated the Palestinian stance on non-interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries or insulting then, stressing that if any member of the Palestinian leadership would do this, they would be held accountable for harming the Arab and the Palestinian national security.
US President Donald Trump, in a speech at the White House on the evening of December 6, officially recognised the occupied city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, claiming that this step was very late in terms of promoting the peace process, and he had signed a decree to move the US embassy to the occupied city.
Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces yesterday arrested five Palestinians in Jericho and Jenin in the West Bank.
Palestine news agency quoted the Palestinian Prisoner's Club that the Israeli army arrested four citizens from Jericho governorate. The Israeli occupation forces also arrested a Palestinian citizen, who is still unidentified, near the Salem military camp, west of Jenin.
In the meantime, Palestinian Minister of Education and Higher Education Sabri Sidem said that the number of university students detained in Israeli prisons reached more than 340 students.
Sidem called on the International Association of Universities, the Association of Arab Universities, parliamentary bodies and human rights organisations to shoulder their responsibilities to raise the voice against these violations.
