Turkey in talks with Iraq to launch operation against PKK

Turkey is negotiating with Iraq to launch a joint operation against the PKK terrorist organization, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said, Turkish media reported on March 9.

Yildirim said the PKK is a common threat to the region.

The prime minister noted that all countries of the region should strengthen the fight against terrorism.

Previously, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey and Iraq will begin a joint military operation against PKK starting next month.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for more than 30 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
