DOHA: The strength and resilience of Palestinian culture and heritage is highlighted in the Palestinian Week launched recently at the Cultural Village Foundation Katara.
Marking the start of the Week are two exhibitions namely 'Thahab Al Sabeqin (The former gold) by Palestinian artist Zuhaira Zaqtan at Katara Hall and the 'Palestinian Traditional Costumes exhibition in cooperation with Al Hannouneh Society for Popular Culture.
Zaqtan said that they aim, through this exhibition, to convey a message and showcase the unforgotten Palestinian heritage and culture despite the attempts by the Israeli occupation to efface it.
Nemat Saleh from Al Hannouneh said that the 'Palestinian Traditional Costumes exhibition is held to raise awareness on the traditional Palestinian costumes of all areas in Palestine.
'This exhibition sheds light on Palestinian embroidery and culture, and contributes in the efforts to preserve it, said Saleh.
The exhibition is organised by al Rozana Group in collaboration with Katara.
Members of the Rozana Group highlighted the importance of such activities to raise awareness on the Palestinian heritage and to expose others from different countries to the Palestinian cause and culture.
A workshop on the basics of Palestinian embroidery and stitching techniques will be held at the conclusion of the exhibition on Saturday from 12 noon to 4pm at the Katara Art Studios,
Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti and Palestinian Ambassador Munir Ghannam along with several other diplomats officially launched the week-long events on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the film 'Stitching Palestine will screen at 7pm tonight at Katara Drama Theatre. The film tells the story of 12 Palestinian women from different walks of life connected by the enduring thread of the ancient art of embroidery.
