MOG chief hails Kuwait, Sweden's role in UNSC Syria ceasefire resolution


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, March 8 (KUNA) -- The President of the European Union's Middle East-Gulf (MOG) Working Party Roberto Storaci said on Thursday that the neutrality and credibility of the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Sweden in Security Council was behind the adoption of resolution No. 2401 on the humanitarian situation in Syria.

In an interview with KUNA, Storaci said Kuwait has always played a major role in helping the needy, pointing to the three Syria's donor conferences, as well as Iraq's reconstruction conference.

He expressed his sincere congratulations to the success of the conference, which supervised by EU, adding that it is a living example of the coordination and cooperation between the European Union and the State of Kuwait.

He added that Kuwait and EU enjoys great diplomatic and economic relations and a genuine partnership based on common interests, confirming the Union's constant efforts to remove any obstacles that may face this distinctive partnership.

Kuwait's request for a Schengen visa waiver, Storaci said the Schengen system is currently in a phase of the establishment of a new electronic visa system, adding that the EU recognizes the importance of this issue for the Kuwaiti government and people.

Storaci said the EU appreciates Kuwait's role in the UN Security Council and the region in resolving disputes, as well as its important role in the Gulf crisis. (end) nma.haq
