The confiscated products were destroyed in the presence of Mohammad Mubarak Al Marri, Head of the Wildlife Section at the Department and several others officials from the Ministry.

The confiscation and destroying of illegal wildlife products that were imported without taking prior permission from the authority concerned came in line with the implementation of the law of the land and the international law as per the agreements signed by Qatar, said Al Marri.

He said that the action aims at deterring the violations that caused losses for importers as they bought wildlife, then killed them to ship to Qatar and finally the consignment was seized and destroyed, adding that they did not get any benefit at all.

The action aims at protecting the strategic reserve of the wildlife at natural environment in its homeland from extinction, said Al Marrri.

He said that Qatar signed several environmental agreement and enacted law, rules and regulations and it is committed to implement the international agreements therefore the legal actions is inevitable as per the agreements. These rules and regulations are mandatory for citizens and expatriates, visitors and even transit passengers.

Head of the Wildlife Section called the people and other entities to adhere to local and international laws related to the wildlife and to follow the proper procedures of import before buying the wildlife and its products for import, otherwise it will be confiscated and destroyed.

Notably, some international environmental agreements required the country to take legal actions against violators and to bring them before court that would punish them with big fine and jail sentence or one of them. The action also includes confiscation of tools used in making violations like transport and hunting gears. A report about the court verdcits and other technical reports are also required to be submitted to the secretariat of the international organization with whom the agreement was signed.

The Ministry will take all necessary legal actions strictly against violations and confiscate the illegal wildlife products that were imported without taking permission from the authority concerned in the country, said Al Marri.
