Some 40 Palestinians injured in clashes with Israeli forces

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GAZA, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- Around 40 Palestinians were injured in clashes with the Israeli occupation force in Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which began after US President Donald Trump announced recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Palestinian health Ministry in Gaza's spokesman Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra said in a statement 22 people were injured by the Israeli gun fire in the strip.

He added that seven were injured east of Jabalya, six in eastern Gaza, four east of Khan Yunus and five in central Gaza.

The Israeli army warned the Palestinians last week against demonstrating near the Gaza borders and hanging the Palestinian flag on the border fence.

Meanwhile, 17 Palestinians were injured in the West Bank, eight of them with live bullets.

The ministry of health in Ramallah said the Palestinians were injured in confrontations with the occupation forces in Nablus, Ramallah, Jericho and Kafr Qaddom town.

The US President also announced that he would move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, triggering outrage among Arabs and Muslims.

The Palestinian Presidency said any unilateral actino would not contribute to achieving peace nor would it legitimize anyone.

"Any steps contrary to the international legitimacy will hamper any effort aimed at achieving any settlement in the region and will create negative and harmful environments," presidency spokesman Nabil Abu Rudaina said in a statement today.

He said achieving peace should be in line with UN resolution and the two-state solution with East Jerusalem as capital of State of Palestine on 1967 borders. (end)
