(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Kuwait, Feb. 15 (Petra) -- Jordan will be at the forefront of countries to help Iraq in its reconstruction bids, said Jordan Minister of State for Investment Affairs, Muhannad Shehadeh, at the International Kuwait Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq (KICRI), which concluded its deliberations on Wednesday.
Jordan's robust ties with Bagdad, its adjacent geographical borders, and familiarity with the Iraqi economy will help Amman make its expertise disposable to Iraqi brethren to reconstruct their country, the minister said in a statement to (Petra).
He hoped Jordan will have a role in the Iraq reconstruction taking into consideration the border developmental areas, and added he met with Iraqi business community residing in Jordan, in Iraq, and abroad on the sidelines of the investment talks.
Discussions were also held with western business leaders to explore relevant feasible investment opportunities and to discuss Jordan's role in efforts of Iraq reconstruction.
These meetings reflect Jordan's belief in the importance of Jordanian-Iraqi partnership and embody centrality of efforts to reconstruct Iraq, he said, and pointed out these discussions mulled possibility of taking Jordan as a logistic platform for the reconstruction, and participants also looked into how to benefit from the Kingdom's border developmental areas.
Jordan's high-profile delegation to the conference also comprised the State Minister for Media Affairs, and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani, who delivered a speech stressing the Kingdom's keenness to help Iraqi brethren in their ambitious reconstruction bid, and pointed out the integration between the Jordanian and Iraqi economies, geographical proximity, the vital inter-transport sector, the historical economic and social relations are all key factors boosting Jordan's role in the Iraq reconstruction.
The KICRI kicked off last Monday with the initiative of the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, with the participation of 75 states, donor countries, international and regional organizations, and chaired by the European Union, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Nations, and the World Bank.
The conference aimed at mobilizing fresh momentum to ease suffering of millions of displaced Iraqis triggered by war on terror, as well as to reconstruction of liberated areas.
