Featured on Startup Grind's stage was Mona Ataya, the founder of Mumzworld, arguably the most successful online search engine for jobs in the Middle East, is now working to disrupt the well-ingrained retail space in the Middle East with the goal of assisting mothers with their maternity, infant and childcare product needs.
Mona started her career at Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, US, at the age of 20 years after graduating with a dual honors degree in marketing and finance. She grew in the company and climbed the leadership ladder until 2000 when she started her entrepreneurial journey as the VP of marketing and co-founder of Bayt.com - a concept that soon proved to be a truly revolutionary one in the region and is today the largest and most recognised recruitment site for the MENA region.
Over 50 entrepreneurs, students and young professionals joined the event at Innovation Factory space in Knowledge Oasis to hear Mona's story to entrepreneurship. Sharing the biggest lessons she's learned in business through Bayt.com and Mumzworld, Mona said, 'The number one lesson is that great teams build great businesses. This can never be said enough times. Secondly, always keep the consumer in mind. Everything you do should be based on the customer's need.
'If you constantly ask yourself which consumer need can I fulfill, not what competitor can I beat, you won't have to worry about competition. Lastly, keep your vision on capital, because without that, your company can't grow.'
