Doha: The Admissions Department at Qatar University (QU) yesterday held an orientation event for new students for Spring 2018, in which students registered into their respective programmes and were familiarized with the university, its programmes, academic and extra-curricular activities, policies, services, and campus resources.

The 3-day event is designed to welcome the new batch of students into the QU community, to assist them with any personal, financial, and housing questions or issues, and to give them the chance to get involved in the QU community.

1,121 students (375 males and 746 females) were admitted for Spring 2018. They were provided with the opportunity to gain relevant information that would ease their transition into the new academic environment. They got acquainted with their colleagues and toured the campus and its facilities. They also got the chance to meet with the deans, associate deans, and administrators of their colleges. The event also included an exhibition featuring 12 booths and showcasing the various services offered by the University.

QU VP for Student Affairs Dr Khalid Al-Khanji welcomed the newly-admitted students and wished them a successful academic journey. He said: 'We are here to assist and support all students to ensure they have an optimal academic experience. This significant event contributes to enhancing the students' introduction to university life and to helping them to become familiar with the challenging and exciting opportunities that the University offers. We look forward to celebrating the innovation and creativity that they will bring to the QU community and the society.

The Admissions Department noted that the New Student Orientation is the starting point for all new students in order to be fully prepared from their very first day of the semester. The orientation provides them with the opportunity to meet their college deans and department heads, and get to know them closely in order to know whom to seek help from during their academic journey. The students also get the opportunity to seek advice from current QU students and learn about various academic support and services available to them. The orientation exercises will continue until February 7.
