North Korea defends military parade planned a day before Olympics


(MENAFN) North Korea has spoke about claims that emerged against its major military parade that is planned to take place one day ahead of the Winter Olympics.

The North was accused of planning to carry out the parade in an attempt to display its nuclear arsenal while some described the event of being provocative.

However, a column in the ruling Workers' Party newspaper denied the claims, saying "it is a custom and very basic common sense that any country in the world takes the founding anniversary of its military very seriously and celebrates it with extravagant events."

While justifying the event on the Rodong Sinmun, North Korea also emphasized that raising complaints about is not a right granted to anyone.
