By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki will visit Turkey, the Turkish Foreign Ministry told Trend Feb. 1.

Riyad al-Maliki will visit Ankara Feb. 2-3 this year at the invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

As part of the visit, the sides will discuss development of relations between Palestine and Turkey, as well as the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by the US.

On Dec. 14, 2017, Turkey provided Palestine with a grant worth $10 million for economic development.

Previously, US President Donald Trump proclaimed that the US recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Israel proclaimed Jerusalem its capital after the end of the War of Independence in 1949. In 1967, after the Six Days War, it seized East Jerusalem and united it with the West Jerusalem, but the UN did not recognize this. Embassies of countries that have diplomatic relations with Israel are located mainly in Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Ramat Gan.
