Israel mulls imposing martial law in Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Ramallah, Jan. 17 (Petra)-The Israeli occupation army mulls the possibility to impose martial law at residential neighborhoods in the occupied city of Jerusalem, said Haaretz daily on Wednesday.

Current deliberations eye Jerusalem's neighborhoods sequestered due to the apartheid wall and the armed forces will assume security command at the targeted city's areas and the refugee camps of Shu'fat and Kafr 'Aqab, added the newspaper.

This bid is the brainwork of intensive consultations at the military headquarters in collaboration with the government's liaison officer of the occupied Palestinian territories, it pointed out.

As a pretext to counter soaring Palestinian anti-occupation rallies, relevant recommendations will be tabled to the Israeli army's Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot to take the necessary measures, especially in the eastern neighborhoods of the holy city.
