Kuwait- Qurain symposium calls for Arab cultural economic dialogue


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- Intellectuals from the Arab countries on Tuesday concluded a symposium by a proposal to launch a cultural economic dialogue to bring their countries closer together.

The symposium, themed "Arab cultural economics and Kuwait's cultural role in promotion of knowledge," was held as part of the 24th edition of Qurain Cultural Festival.

It reached a final communique of the symposium which was read by Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Subayyel, president of King Faisal International Prize, at the closing ceremony.

The proposed dialogue has to reconcile the needs of promote the cultural movement with the needs to promote economic development.

It should also underscore promotion of culture as one of human rights, and thereby ensuring access to culture for every Arab citizen, according to the document.

In the framework of the planned dialogue, a package of cultural initiatives should be launched based on the experiment of Kuwait which stems from a three-party partnership involving the government, the civil society and the private sector.

The dialogue has to attach great importance to the Arabic language through modernization of curricula and the concerned educational institutions, and improving the Arabic content of the internet, the communique stressed.

The panelists urged the competent authorities to facilitate the cultural exchanges, including the contacts among Arab writers associations, the movement of cultural contents by removing the customs and bureaucratic barriers among the Arab countries.

They welcomed the initiative of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS) to launch an Arab academic network to bring together the Arab scholars and intelligentsia and facilitate experience sharing among them.

The two-day symposium saw five panel discussions that dealt with the themes of tools of cultural integration; roles of official and semi-official institutions in cultural promotion; the digital publication; and culture as one of the tributaries of economic development.

The 24th Qurain Cultural Fistival was inaugurated by Minister of Information and President of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL) Mahammad Al-Jabri on Wednesday, January 10. (end) ahd.asa.gb
