(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The newly-renovated tennis courts at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) will be the venue of the forthcoming Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV tournament, which will witness the participation of 12 nations, from January 29-February 3.
Besides hosts Oman, the teams taking part are Bahrain, Bangladesh, Guam, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and UAE.
The teams will be divided into two pools of six teams each with the winner of Pool A taking on Pool B runner-up and Pool B winner meeting Pool A runner-up to decide the two teams that will be promoted to Group III in 2019.
Experienced Davis Cup campaigner Mohammed al Nabhani will spearhead Oman's challenge along with Rawahi brothers – Muneer and Younis and Abdullah al Barwani. Siddiq al Hashmi will be the non-playing captain.
Ahead of the event, the Oman Tennis Association (OTA) has arranged the national team's training camp in Nice, France at the famed Mouratoglou Tennis Academy.
Grand double for Muneer
Muneer al Rawahi claimed a grand double by winning the U18 and U16 boys' titles at the recently-organised first Oman Tennis Association (OTA) Monthly Junior Tennis Tournament 2018 at the SQSC.
Organised as part of OTA's development programme for juniors, the event had more than 80 players competing in various categories.
Former senior OTA official Ghazi al Zadjali, OTA secretary Mundhir al Barwani, OTA treasurer Siddiq al Hashmi, OTA executive manager Salman al Balushi were the guests of honour and distributed the awards.

9-7; U14 boys: Vivek Kolluru beat Tyler Blake 9-6; U16 girls: Aisha al Suleimani beat Safanah 9-3; U16 boys: Muneer al Rawahi beat Vivek Kolluru 9-3; U18 girls: Rafaella Saa beat Aisha 9-7; U18 boys: Muneer beat Ammar al Khanjari 6-4, 7-6.
