Kuwait continues helping needy people in Yemen, Syria, Sudan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- Living up to its UN-bestowed status as an International Humanitarian Center, Kuwait continued providing humanitarian aid to people in need.

Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) announced Wednesday that it has dispatched 90 tons of food aid to the Yemeni people.

KRCS Chairman Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer told KUNA the food shipment would be distributed on those affected in the areas where the Yemeni people are present.

Al-Sayer explained that this batch of aid was provided by the Kuwaiti people and is part of the assistance provided by the KRCS since the outbreak of the Yemeni crisis.

He added that the affected and needy people of Yemen require great support from the Gulf and Arab Red Crescent Societies, stressing the importance of interaction and response of international organizations with the needy Yemeni people, especially the displaced from their areas where they live.

The International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) also on Wednesday declared launching a humanitarian campaign aimed at relieving Syrian and Palestinian refugees with onset of winter cold.

The organization is seeking donations to secure food parcels, each worth KD 30 (approximately USD 100) and sufficient for a five-member family for a month, in addition to clothes, heating fuel for each family valued at KD 35 as well as blankets.

It appealed to citizens and private companies to contribute to the campaign for aiding the refugees, namely children.

Kuwait By Your Side campaign districuted solar-powered water pumps for the local administration in the Yemeni governorate of Jouf.

The campaign works in five sectors: water, health, shelter, education and food.

Meanwhile, Islamic Heritage Revival society distributted 8,000 bank cards to orphans in Sudan.

Ahmad Tuhami, Secretary General of Ansar Al-Sunna group, which collaborated with the society in distributing the cards, said the cards would facilitate transfer of five million Sudanese Pounds (USD 713,095) to around 5,008 orphans every month in a safe and secured manner. (end) bs
