Ukraine, Romania to jointly implement 'language' article of education law

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukraine and Romania agree to develop a joint document on implementation of Ukraine's law on education, including the seventh article on the language of education.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this during a joint press conference with Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu in Chernivtsi, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We have a lot of questions to discuss, but of course, we started with what we can and should do together to implement our new law on education. Together with Lilia Hrynevych [Education and Science Minister of Ukraine] we once again stressed that the implementation of this law should be based on a consistent discussion and interaction with our Romanian friends and partners and with society. We agreed that our Ministry of Education started to work on a joint document that will determine our vision of implementation of this law for Ukrainian citizens of Romanian origin and for the Romanian community," Klimkin said after a meeting with his Romanian counterpart.

According to him, this joint document will determine that all citizens of Ukraine should have a good knowledge of the Ukrainian language for further self-realization in Ukraine, and a number of subjects at schools such as, for example, the history of Ukraine, the fundamentals of state and law, will be taught in Ukrainian.

At the same time, the foreign minister noted that other parameters for the introduction of the law, including the "language" article, will be determined by the Education Ministries of the two countries after a dialogue with the society.
