Author Reveals The Riveting Story Of Coal Miners: An Appalachian Story

(MENAFNEditorial) Online PR News 10-January-2018 Russellville, KY When one talks about American Economic History, mining has made its mark on those who have seen it become a major industry in the 19th century. While most sources contain stories about its developments from the colonial times up until the present, Judith Hoover pens a gripping fiction novel that reveals the truth of the life in mining. Story is a beguiling piece of work that takes readers on a bittersweet ride with mining families.

Beyond Monongah: An Appalachian Story introduces the character of Hershel Martin, an eight-year old trapper boy who lives in the beautiful Appalachian region of America. It is 1896 when he quits school and begins to work in the dark mine. As he battles to survive, he sits alone in the dark, opening and closing an air directing trap door, or waiting for the coal to rumble down the chute and then raising a trapdoor so the coal can fall into mine cars on the track below. Left with no choice, Hershel faces this deadly world, following those in his family who have worked in the mines before him.

After the unexpected death of his mother, Hershel deals with his challenges from being taunted by other boys and his affection for a girl he is unsure she can reciprocate. In the winter of 1907, his life changes when a disaster strikes the mine leaving him grieving for his lost friends and longing to help those who have suffered unimaginable losses. The devastated world underground is hidden by the majesty of the mountains under their blanket of December snow.
The story by Judith Hoover uses a fictional approach but conveys real life situations that have happened and can still happen in the world of mining. The plot is relatable to those who have experienced losses of their loved ones. Beyond Monongah: An Appalachian Story serves as an eye-opener to those who have never understood the life of a miner. The story discloses the danger that every individual encounters the moment they step into that world. Some have been buried alive together with their dreams while some have benefited from those who have worked so hard to become successful in the industry. This is indeed a must-read novel, a source that is called by many readers undeniably hard to put down!
