The Senior Citizen Home Safety Association recorded 1,760 requests for help and 81 people, who suffered mainly from dizziness or falls, had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Red Cross made an urgent appeal for blood donations due to inadequate supplies of all blood types, Sing Tao Daily reported.

The Observatory said it expects the cold weather to last for the next few days with low temperatures ranging from 10 to 13 degrees Celsius before the weekend.

Temperatures would rise early next week as the winter monsoon is expected to become more moderate.
