Jordan- QRTA announces Teacher Skills Forum 2018 will take place in March


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan 8 (Petra) – The Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA) announced the details of the Teacher Skills Forum 2018 in a press conference today.

It said the Forum, held under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, will take place on 2-4 March at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center at the Dead Sea in Jordan.

The Teacher Skills Forum is an annual regional event organized by QRTA in partnership for the fourth year with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB).

The Teacher Skills Forum was established to provide teachers from the Arab world with modern and creative strategies and innovative teaching techniques. It is a platform for teachers to explore, learn, and share experiences with some of the world's most renowned educators and scholars.

By harnessing the expertise and resources of QRTA, and the experience and reputation of the international Baccalaureate, TSF tackles the challenges facing a much-needed educational transition in the Arab World.

This year, TSF comes in its forth version following 3 very successful forums, 2014 under the theme "Revolutionizing Education", 2015 under the theme of "From What to How", it said.

The most recent TSF in 2017 was organized under the theme "Deconstruct and Reconstruct" was attended by more than 1000 teachers and educators from 17 different countries around the world, including Palestine, UAE, Oman, Lebanon, Egypt, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, United Kingdom, and United States along with Jordan and other Arab and foreign delegations who participated in 131 workshops during the forum.

The academy said that based on the outcomes of previous Forums, the Teacher Skills Forum 2018 will incorporate a multifaceted theme "Growth Beyond Grades", a theme of concern to all educators, and a controversial one that emphasizes on the importance of linking learners assessment through grades from one side, and the level of growth and developing the required skills of students from another side to prepare learners properly for the future.

This year's Forum theme encourages teachers to research and reflect on teaching and assess practices that go beyond grades, and focus on growth and holistic education and equips learners with life skills needed for the 21stcentury., it said, adding that the Forum's thematic strands will cover innovative approaches to teaching and the use of technology to enhance learning outcomes.

The Forum sessions will be structured along four cross-cutting thematic strands: ECE: Anchoring Learning in the Early Grades; Understanding Learning and the Learner; Transformational Leadership; and Learning and Teaching with Technology. The pre-conference institutes' day on 2 March will include 10 one-day workshops delivered by world-renowned specialists in their fields with 128 workshops as a total during the two days divided equally between Arabic and English, it said.

QRTA CEO, Haif Bannayan, said that "From "Revolutionizing Education", to "From What to How", and "Deconstruct and Reconstruct" in 2017, this year's Forum theme "Growth Beyond Grades" is a topic close to the heart and mind of every teacher, parent, mother, father and most importantly the student. This year, the Teacher Skills Forum 2018 is adding 3 plenaries to its rich program, in which renowned speakers/organizations and Universities present research findings of high importance and relation to the theme. What distinguishes this year's forum is the participation of teachers who can share their experiences and interact during the workshops that they reflected in the classroom.

Scholars from acclaimed universities and entities such as University of Connecticut, University of Bath, Education Development Trust, UCL Institute of Education, Jordan Media Institute, British Council, The National Centre for Culture and Arts – Jordan, International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) Heads of Program Development, and Scholars from regional colleges of education will offer their expertise to the Forum from different countries around the world like Palestine, Lebanon, UAE, KSA, Qatar, USA, UK ,Ukraine, Holland, India, South Africa in addition to the host country Jordan.

In coherence with this year's theme, TSF 2018 will feature Alan November as the Keynote Speaker. Alan is an international leader in education technology named as one of the fifteen most influential thinkers of the decade in the USA.
