Britain announces fresh humanitarian aid


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) LONDON, Dec 31 (KUNA) -- Britain has set aside financial aid worth 98 million pounds (USD 132.4 million) in efforts to put an end to human tragedy.

A sum of 77 million pounds (USD 104 million) will be disbursed to Syrian refugees residing in Lebanon to enable them to purchase necessities, British Secretary of State for International Development Penny Mordaunt told reporters on Sunday.

The British official put a two-year timeframe on the aid package for Syrian refugees, which starts in 2018.

Meanwhile, a sum of 21 million pounds (USD 28.4 million) would be given to the UN's Central Emergency Response Fund in time for the new year, she pointed out.

Britain has provided the UN humanitarian fund with roughly 55 million pounds (USD 74.3 million) in 2017, Mordaunt added. (end) mrn.nam
