UAE- RAK Police beef up security at New Year celebration venues

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) With few days left for the New Year, the law enforcement bodies plans to deploy more traffic and security patrols, to secure the much-awaited celebrations and ensure traffic flow.

Sources with the RAK Police told Khaleej Times that more of their staff will be deployed to ease and control the crowds attending the New Year's Eve fireworks at Al Marjan Island.

"The fireworks, set to be one of the largest in the UAE, will be attempting the Guinness World Records for the 'largest aerial firework shell' that can be viewed from 120 sites," they said.

Two new public view areas are to be created and over 5,000 additional public car parking spaces will be available around Al Marjan Island to welcome the expected visitors, they added. "However, the public is urged to be at the site on December 31 before 8pm. All the roads to the entrance of the Al Marjan Island shall be closed at 10pm," they alerted.

Abdullah Al Abdouli, managing director (MD) of Al Marjan Island, said a team of 30 engineers, pyrotechnicians and others are working on the project led by Phil Grucci, creative director of Fireworks by Grucci. "The spectacular firework display will add to the pride of Ras Al Khaimah and the entire nation. We are working with the authorities concerned to ensure the highest standards of safety."
