Afghanistan- Scholars urge Taliban to shun violence, protect welfare gains

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): Hundreds of religious scholars coming together in Kabul from various parts of the country on Tuesday asked the to protect national infrastructure and public welfare projects by renouncing violence and joining the reconciliation process.

Around 700 religious scholars from different parts of the country attended the day two of a two-day conference ' Consultative Conference on Peace' and issued a unanimously passed resolution.

Mualvi Attaullah Faizan on behalf of the country's ulema, thanked the president and the government for their timely response in the defense of the people of Palestine and against the US move to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli capital.

They called for peace in the country as a divine order and asked the conflicting parties to show ceasefire and develop for peace.

The ulema resolution said the conflict in had created ground for intelligence warfare, presence of global terrorists, foreign forces and drug mafia and only peace and stability could eradicate all these menaces.

The ulema asked Taliban to stop war, blasts and suicide attacks and ensure protection of public property, uplift projects and mega projects by accepting the government offer of intra-Afghan dialogue and choose peaceful method for achieving their goals.

They asked the government to show restraint, deal with the Taliban carefully and avoid policy statements which could further deteriorate the situation and harm the environment for peace talks.

In addition, the ulema asked the government to accelerate its anti-corruption campaign, keep the military apolitical, address reservations and concern of Ulema and avoid self-styled action against people.

They asked the international community, particularly the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC), to discharge their responsibility towards the Afghanistan reconciliation process besides supporting Afghan security forces.
