(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GAZA, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- Joined by leaders of national factions and civil society, Palestinian women on Sunday staged a mass march in protest of a recent US decision on Jerusalem.
They marched from Al-Saraya Square in central Gaza to the Unknown Soldier Square, with female protesters hoisting banners and chanting slogans against US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.
The disgruntled protesters emphasized that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine, calling on Palestinian people to continue their Intifada (uprising) against the US move, the organizers said in a release.
They lashed out at the US veto against an Arab draft resolution rejecting Trump's controversial decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
They stressed that Palestinian women are an integral part of ongoing protests and demonstrations against the US decision.
US President Donald Trump had recognized in a much-anticipated announcement Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and decided to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The US president's decision has sparked wide-scale condemnations and rejection at Arab, Islamic and international levels.
The UN General Assembly had recently adopted by an overwhelming majority a resolution rejecting the US decision on Jerusalem and demanding all countries to comply with UN Security Council resolutions regarding the status of Jerusalem.
The non-abiding resolution was adopted at an emergency meeting Thursday by a recorded vote of 128 in favor to nine against, with 35 abstentions. (end) wab.mt
