OIC: lack of UNSC resolution on Jerusalem affects Mideast peace

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Dec 19 (KUNA) -- The UNSC failure to issue a resolution on the status of Jerusalem will complicated efforts for peace in the Middle East, said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Tuesday.

In a press release, the OIC said that the US Veto of an Arab-proposed resolution on the status of Jerusalem was in contradiction to previous decision regarding the holy city.

The OIC commended the countries, which stood in favor of the resolution and called for more support on the level of the UN General Assembly to support the "uniting for peace" initiative, which calls for a resolution in support the Palestinian's right to determine their own fate.

Late Monday, the US vetoed an Arab-proposed resolution at the UNSC, which called for forbidding international diplomatic missions from moving to Jerusalem.

This veto came less than two weeks from US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the American embassy to the city. (end) nh.gta
