Oman- Cricket: Hong Kong escape whitewash with consolation win in Dubai

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The ghost of batting failures came back to haunt Oman as its dream of second successive series whitewash failed to materialise after a 3-wicket loss to Hong Kong in the third and final match of the series Sultanate was leading 2-0.

All Oman batsmen, except Jatinder Singh (31 off 44 balls) and Zeeshan Maqsood (22 off 16) to some extent, failed to negotiate with a lively pitch at the ICC Cricket Academy ground and folded up for 101 in the 27th over; the total included seven extras.

Hong Kong exploited the conditions by bowling brilliantly and getting on top of Oman batters from the very outset. Tanveer Ahmed and Nadeem Ahmed bagged three wickets each while Aizaz Khan took two.

Oman overcame strong solid start by Hong Kong top order with successive strikes, reducing it to 84 for 7 from being 67 for 2. However, the 18-run unbroken eighth wicket partnership between Ehsan Khan and Ehsan Nawaz saw Hong Kong home in the 34th over. Waqas Khan topscored with a solid 32 while Cameron McAuslan contributed a patient 23.

Khawar Ali and Jay Odedara claimed three wickets each.

Brief scores: Oman 101 all out in 26.3 overs (Jatinder Singh 31 – 6x4, Zeeshan Masood 22 – 1x4, 2x6. Tanveer Ahmed 3-13, Nadeem Ahmed 3-22, Aizaz Khan 2-24) lost to Hong Kong 102 for 7 in 34.4 overs (Waqas Khan 32 – 4x4, Cameron McAuslan 23 – 2x4. Khawar Ali 3-12, Jay Odedara 3-33) by 3 wickets.
