(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- H E Khamis bin Said al Sulaimi, State Council member and a member of the Social Affairs, Education, Culture and Woman and Youth committee at Arab Parliament attended the Arab Parliament emergency meeting, on Monday.

H E Salim bin Ali al Kaabi, a member of Majlis A'Shura and a member of the Legal and Legislative committee and human rights committee in the Arab Parliament also attended the meeting.

It discussed ways to defy the recent US decision of recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, stated a press release.

The Arab Parliament upheld regional rejection of the decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, saying it holds the US responsible for any consequences in international security.

The parliament further demanded that the UN lead the peace process, after considering the US an unfair mediator.

The Arab Parliament stressed on the Arab and Islamic solidarity with the Palestinians via coordinating efforts between the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab Parliament to enhance recognition of the Palestinian state and its full membership in the United Nations.

The speaker of the Arab Parliament, Meshal al Selmi, called for an Arab roadmap for establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Addressing the meeting, Selmi held the US responsible for the 'irresponsible decision' taken by President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

He said that the US decision would deal a death blow to the peace process in the Middle East region.
