Arab League, African Union eye integration

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit and Chairman of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki discussed on Sunday the promotion of Arab-African integration, especially regarding the Palestine issue.

This came during an Arab-African cooperation meeting held in Cairo today, the Arab League said in a press statement.

During the meeting, Faki reiterated his commission's solidarity with the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, mainly an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Abul-Gheit appreciated the African Union Commission's unshakable support to the Palestinian issue, and welcomed its rejection of US President Donald Trump's recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The chiefs of Arab and African bodies also addressed the current situation in Libya, and agreed to step up concerted efforts in order to restore security and stability in this violence-torn Arab country, according to the statement.

They also explored ways and means of promoting and consolidating Arab-African partnership and coordination in view of political, diplomatic, economic, trade and cultural domains. (end) mfm.asm.mt
