Jordan- Health minister meets international health officials in Geneva


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Dec. 3 (Petra) -- Health minister, Mahmoud Shayab, and international health officials discussed in Geneva a number of issues pertaining to health and medical services Jordan provides Syrian refugees, Health ministry spokesman, Hatem El Azruei said Sunday.

El Azruei said minister Shayab met with Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom, WHO's Assistant Director-General for Special Initiatives, Ranieri Guerra, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer and the ICRC's Head of Health, Esperanza Martinez.

The meeting, according to El Azruei, discussed a number of issues related to Jordan's health sector and its needs, especially with regards to the Syrian refugee crisis.

He added that the meeting also tackled these organizations' support to the Kingdom in the fields of technical support, human resources, training, strategic planning, mental health, bacterial resistance to antibiotics, tobacco control and smoking.
