UN envoy for Yemen urges resumption of dialogue

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Dec 2 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad renewed his appeal for all parties to the conflict in Yemen to return to the negotiating table immediately.

A peacefully negotiated solution is the only exit from the current crisis, Cheikh Ahmad said in a statement on Saturday one day after a serious escalation in the fighting in and around the capital city of Sanaa.

The UN envoy urged the warring parties to exercise maximum restraint, honor their obligations under the international humanitarian laws, shoulder their humanitarian responsibilities and avoid targeting civilians.

He expressed profound concern over the adverse impacts of the renewed fighting on the civilian population who bore the brunt of the prolonged conflict. (end) asf.gb
