NBO Golf Classic Grand Final puts Oman on the global map

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) In the five years that Al Mouj golf has hosted a European Challenge Tour tournament, there has been significant growth in the event's exposure both locally and around the world which is down to a combination of tremendous coverage from the Challenge Tour's cutting edge media platforms and exceptional support from local and international press.

Alain de Soultrait, Director of European Challenge Tour, has noticed a big difference in the way people keep up to date with the tournament since its first inception in 2013.

'The exposure of this tournament through all the social media platforms in the last three years has been exceptional,' said de Soultrait. 'People can follow the tournament through the live blog and the live scoring platform which includes video clips and interviews which help to promote the event exceptionally.

'Players are competing from all around the world so you need to keep people from all the globe informed with what is happening. That's the beauty of social media for the Challenge Tour.'

It's not just the constant stream of social media that keeps the fans updated with the season-ending event. The NBO Golf Classic Grand Final has four 46-minute same day highlight programmes for each of the four rounds which are filmed, edited, voiced over and distributed around the world in a European Tour / IMG partnership.

These highlights go out to 170 million homes globally and are broadcasted in over 50 countries across six continents. There are over 2,000 hours of Challenge Tour content broadcast each year and all of this can be streamed online for free on .

On the home front the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final receives wonderful support from the English and Arabic media in Oman while the event has continued to capture the imagination of the wider Middle East press. The international flavor of the field in the Challenge Tour's season ender also means that there are guaranteed to be players of interest to different media outlets around the world all of which enhances the event's global exposure.

Nick Tarratt, Regional Director of the European Tour Middle East, commented: 'The growth of engagement with the media and fans in Oman and around the world has exploded in such a short time. However, we have only recently fully energised the power of social media.

'In this region it is also important not to forget the Arabic media, print, online and social media. We are determined to invest further in this project and link this to our golfing members, golf fans, non-golfers and celebrities.'

The numbers for the Challenge Tour's social media platforms are impressive with: 6.5 million monthly impressions on users' Twitter feeds, 2.3 million people reached per month on Facebook and 25,000 photos liked per month on Instagram.

Alistair Corless has been a Challenge Tour press officer for a couple of years and has noticed a huge growth in the way golf fans interact with the sport these days.

'Television and social media is crucial,' said Corless. 'Every year our platforms are growing. The television guys do a fantastic job week in, week out and we are constantly growing on social media, especially on Twitter and Instagram which most golf fans seem to use these days.'

Long may this growth continue as the Challenge Tour nurtures and attracts golf's brightest talents with the likes of Major champions Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson and Brooks Koepka graduating from this Tour over the years. The top 15 in the Road to Oman Rankings this week could go on to become the next stars to take the golfing world by storm.
