Population of Omani children touches 965747

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has said that that the number of Omani children in the age group from 0-17 years reached 965747 in the first half of 2015.

of Omani children the statistics indicated that the stillbirth rate has decreased in 2014 to reach 7.1 deaths per every thousand newborns compared to 7.4 deaths recorded in 2013. The rate of diarrhoeal diseases recorded in 2014 reached 0.24 per children under the age of five years. With regard to pre-school and school education 205 kindergartens accommodating 7900 children have been recorded in the sultanate. The governorate of Muscat topped the list in the number of kindergartens at 68 per cent with the governorate of Al Wusta having the least number of such schools. The governorate of Musandam has no kindergarten school. The net enrollment ratio of children under the age from four to five years reached 38.9 per cent at the pre-school level. The net enrollment ratio in government and private schools reached 96 per cent for Grades 1- 6 83.1 per cent for Grades 7-9 and 77.7 per cent for Grades 10-12. Statistics indicate that the number of children who join the welfare centres as disabled reached 1957 at the end of last September. These children from 2-14 years were accommodated at 25 such centres. Data showed that 259 juvenile offenders who fall under the age group from 9-17 years were recorded in 2014. These children constitute 3.7 per cent of the overall offenders compared to five per cent in 2010. Most of the juvenile offenders in this age group were boys at 97 per cent.
