Saudi- Secrets behind aging and how to beat them

(MENAFN- Arab News) The charismatic Turkish American cardiothoracic surgeon and media personality Mehmet Cengiz Oz has coauthored the incisive book 'You: Staying Young: The Owner's Manual for Extending Your Warranty ' with Michael Roizen. Dr. Mehmet Oz became an instant celebrity when he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and Harry King Live. He now hosts his own show. He is considered as one of Harvard's 100 most influential alumni and the magazine Esquire has placed him on its list of the 75 most influential people of the 21st century. With 'You: Staying Young' Dr. Oz has teamed once again with Dr. Roizen for another addition to their bestselling 'You' series. In a captivating approach and with great insight the doctors tell us how to beat the inevitable decline of our system as we age.
'By slowing the aging of our cells while simultaneously preventing disease we can enjoy not only a higher quality of life but a much longer one as well' explain the authors.
We are all going to experience memory problems but our mental decline starts at age sixteen and is relatively common by forty. But when you increase your learning during life you decrease the risk of developing memory-related problems. That means your brain has a better chance if you keep it active and engaged if you keep challenging it with new lessons. Doing tough tasks strengthens the neural connections that are important to preserving memory.
Furthermore among the best nutrients to help keep your cerebral power lines strong are omega-3 fatty acids the kinds of fat found in fish like salmon and mahi-mahi. Finally there is a lot of evidence that a good laugh can help improve our immune system and humor can also have a positive effect on our memory.
Another major ager is bacteria and other germs which trigger an inflammatory response in our body that affects our whole system. This kind of inflammatory response predisposes us to more cell replications which increases the risk of mutations that can lead to cancer. Much of the aging process is a side effect of defense mechanisms that our body has designed.
The truth is that more than 90 percent of our cells belong to foreign organisms. Not only do these cells outnumber us but we cannot live without them; after all it's the bacteria in our gut that help digest our food. One of the real secrets of controlling aging is learning how we can make peace with foreign cells and have more influence over them. The main thing we can do to decrease the chances of getting cancer is to reduce the repetitive injury to our normal cells caused by toxins infections oxygen free radicals and genetic defects.
One of the greatest things we can do for our health is to take 162 milligrams of aspirin a day. Taking aspirin on a regular basis is known to decrease the risk of getting colon cancer esophageal cancer prostate cancer ovarian cancer and breast cancer. And it probably decreases the risk of stomach throat and several other cancers as well. Aspirin is able to achieve this thanks to the reduction of inflammation throughout the body although other cell repair mechanisms may be active as well.
We should also protect our liver which is our main detox organ. Certain foods like broccoli seaweed and dark greens can help improve liver function. Olive oil rich in monounsaturated fat is not only good for the heart but may also deter cancer. And green tea has been shown to have the highest content of polyphenols which are chemicals with antioxidants properties. Although green tea has one-third the caffeine of black tea it's been shown to trigger the same level of excitement and attentiveness. But do not add milk to green tea the casein in milk has been shown to inhibit the beneficial effects of tea.
Another cause of aging is glycosylation which occurs when sugar molecules attach to protein molecules diminishing their effectiveness and causing inflammation. Depending on where glycosylation occurs it can have a variety of effects on your body.
When glucose attaches to collagen in your connective tissues you end up with less elasticity. Collagen is needed for the smooth functioning of joints. High blood sugar magnifies all aches and pains and can lead to impaired joint movement and eventually arthritis. In the skin the glycosylation of collagen becomes less elastic and very stiff.
Our bodies are designed to run on a relatively low level of glucose when we overeat and indulge in a sedentary lifestyle we're unable to process the extra glucose. All food no matter whether it's a protein fat or carbohydrate gets broken down into glucose. When you have insulin resistance and you overeat the cells in your body are unable to absorb the extra glucose and cause frequent urination and fatigue but also more important problems such as arthritis infections kidney failure heart attack strokes memory problems and impotence.
The most important things to do to lower the risk of diabetes and to keep fit is to exercise thirty minutes daily. In fact we need to work our muscles our brains and virtually every other organ and system in our bodies to make them stronger for longer.
The most extreme example of someone who doesn't use it and loses it is the astronaut who returns after a space flight. After living some time in an atmosphere without gravity astronauts lose significant muscle and bone mass so much so that they have to be helped to walk on the ground. They also often lose their mental grounding and perception of where they are.
In terms of exercising stretching will lengthen your muscles and give them the ability to adapt to all kinds of situations such as getting up after a fall thanks to the flexibility to twist and turn.
I have only reviewed a few of the 14 biological processes mentioned in the book and which control our rate of aging. Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen use a simple language to explain the complex process of aging and how to fight its effects.
We can stay young by learning how this system works so we can reprogram them to work the way they did when we were younger. In this book Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen show us with their entertaining style and sharp insight how to prevent our body from aging. They also convince us that graceful aging is not so difficult to imagine and our goal should be to die young at any age because we have the means to live a high quality of life.
