(MENAFN - Arab Times) Most of the participants on an online poll conducted by Al-Seyassah daily over the weekend believe the current parliamentary majority has crossed all the red lines and has begun controlling the constitutional powers in the country.
Sixty-four percent of 400 men and women from different social backgrounds who participated in the poll pointed out the parliamentary majority members do not play their legislative and supervisory roles efficiently. They also warned about the danger of allowing the majority to control the constitutional powers. They said the scathing attack launched by some MPs against the judiciary is a clear indication of their intention to eliminate all obstacles in the realization of their ambitions.
Meanwhile, 34 percent of the respondents think otherwise; saying, the parliamentary majority members perform their legislative and supervisory duties effectively without crossing any red line. They claimed the current political circumstances prevent the group from accomplishing its tasks properly. On the other hand, two percent of the respondents have no opinion on the issue.
Meanwhile, MP Khalid Al-Sultan has vehemently denied the alleged suspension of the construction of Al-Zour power plant, reports Al-Shahed daily.
In a recent press statement, Al-Sultan affirmed the project will be implemented as planned to prevent electricity and water shortage in 2014. He claimed the procedures taken by the former government were illegal and contravened the privatization policy. He also stressed the importance of constructing the power plant to serve the interests of the nation and its people.
The judiciary is a State authority whose powers and functions are determined by the law, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting MP Obaid Al-Wasmi.
On the latest developments in the local political arena, Al-Wasmi said there seems to be a connection between certain political events and fire incidents. He cited as an example the recent fire in Amghara, asserting that a political event is usually followed by a huge fire at a certain location.
