(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A Kuwaiti-Iranian joint committee discussed, in its 11th session, launching shared projects concerning food security, fisheries, livestock, poultry and agriculture.
On the fringes of the meeting which was held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Commerce, Undersecretary of Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry Abdullaziz Al-Khaldi told the press that the Kuwaiti side welcomed investing in these projects which would be handed over to private sectors and concerned government bodies to be studied. These projects would contribute greatly in providing food security in the state of Kuwait, he added.
The Kuwaiti side stressed, during the meeting, the importance of enhancing food security and safety measures onboard of the Iranian ships coming to the country.
The meeting also focused on facilitating all obstacles between Kuwait International fair and its Iranian counterpart by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to hold more ground fairs on both countries.
The Iranian side, meanwhile, said that there is more room for bilateral industrial cooperation, especially in livestock, fisheries in addition to joint industrial and commercial exhibitions.
Iranian Deputy Minister of Commerce Hameed Safdil said, in the meeting, that the MoU will include a clause that would unify measures and standard of commercial exchange between Kuwait and Iran to facilitate and speed up the customs process.
Safdil expressed his country's readiness to host the next joint meeting and hoped that the trade volume between the two countries would increase over the current USD 200 million.
