BRIEF: 2012 Mason County Conservation Farm chosen

Jun 16, 2012 (Menafn - Point Pleasant Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --POINT PLEASANT -- The Western Conservation District recently announced the Hayman Homestead Farm of Mason County is the 2012 Mason County Conservation Farm.

The farm is owned and operated by Tate and Damia Hayman of Leon. The farm was chosen for its outstanding practices in the field of conservation efforts and utilization of natural resources.

The farm is a cow-calf beef operation. The farm does several conservation efforts throughout the year, including rotational grazing, pasture management, waste management, and water conservation.

The Hayman family is very active in the community, as they take part in local school, church and various conservation education programs, such as hosting the 2012 WCAD land judging.

The award was given to recognize conservation efforts throughout the county. This was no easy task as the Western District Conservation Supervisors evaluated the farms according to such criteria as the best management practices, Conservation Farm Plans, land usage and farm family involvement in the community.

The Hayman's will receive a farm sign along with other awards at the 66th annual Western Conservation District awards banquet this fall.
